Re: Anyone been to the Houses of Parliament?
Yes, I did a tour there last year, also included sitting in the commons behind that glass screen and watching the mp's live debate.
Really interesting place.
I managed to get on the tour by contacting my MP & getting him to sort it for me.

Re: Anyone been to the Houses of Parliament?
Yes, and it's well worth it.

Except for really important debates and PMQ, you can just turn up and go in. The entrance is next to the Oliver Cromwell statue, and it's free to get in.

For PMQ, you have to go through your MP, and there might be quite a waiting time.

"you can just turn up and go in"

No you can't.

"and it's free to get in"

No it's not.

I'm going there in an hour's time.

Write to your MP and you'll get a free tour. Otherwise pay £25 for a tour on the weekend.

Or work in a job requiring you to go to Parliament...

You can usually arrange via your MP, I went there on a school trip

Well, it was a few months ago. Has it changed?

Not unless you sucked off an MP and got the shit version of the tour...?

You can just turn up and go in if either House is sitting - to attend a debate in the Gods, or just to wait around in Central Lobby.

It is also free to get in, unless you want to go on a guided tour - and even in that case if your MP arranges the guided tour it is free.

Pancho 11:09 Tue Feb 10
Re: Anyone been to the Houses of Parliament?
But to get in free and walk round is utterly pointless.

There's no point going all the way up there to not get the proper tour and find out the history.

Like going to the Upton Park and standing in the car park.

Re: Anyone been to the Houses of Parliament?
You don't have to do a full tour, but you can go in and watch the debates in both Houses.

Re: Anyone been to the Houses of Parliament?
Well, even if you just go to Westminster Hall and Central Lobby, that's still worth seeing - both are spectacular and have so much history. Plus then you can go and watch a bit of a debate and snooze off to sleep.

Agreed, the tour is worth doing as you get the context explained and most MPs should be able to arrange that very easily for free.

Re: Anyone been to the Houses of Parliament?
Of fuck off that place completely and go over Westminster Bridge to Namco and spend an hour or two playing Street Fighter.

Far better way to spend your money.

Re: Anyone been to the Houses of Parliament?
Having said that, I think only the paying tour may allow you to go in the Chamber itself as most of the tours MPs arrange are during the week, so the Chamber is only accessible by MPs.
